Ruby Beach

There is a parking lot and from the parking lot, it’s only a .25 mile hike down to the beach.

You’ll want to come here when the tide is low and of course I checked the tide schedule but decided to just leave my house whenever I wanted to so I got here when the tide wasn’t super low – bummer. I was also planning on getting here during sunset for pics but I didn’t want to get home super late … I have to come back another day! Anyhoo got some pics and a video of the babies playing on the beach =) enjoy!

Golden Gardens Park – Off Leash Area

This off leash area is big enough for your dogs to run until they’re tired and there are always other dogs to play with. There are multiple watering stations throughout the park but only ONE trash can for poop which I find super odd. I don’t like to carry poop around with me and I don’t want to keep running across the park to dispose of the doggies’ poop. I have to say this isn’t one of my favorite parks but I come here occasionally when I don’t have a lot of time because this park is fairly close to home. There is a separate small dog area but I don’t ever see small dogs in there. I don’t think I even noticed it until my 3rd time here. Oh and there’s a parking lot – that’s always a plus in Seattle =)

Luther Burbank Park (Off leash dog park)

Located on Mercer Island, this park is easily accessible right off of I90 and it has its own parking lot. I’ve been here a few times and I’ve never had trouble finding parking. My buddies had a great time prancing around, chasing their new four legged friends and splashing around in the water while I relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful view of Lake Washington. This park is not huge and it’s fenced in so you don’t have to worry about losing your dog. There is even a cleaning station-it’s closed during winter which is fine with me. I wouldn’t want to spray water on my dogs in the freezing cold anyway >_<

Besides the off leash area, there are tennis courts, basketball hoops, boat docks, picnic areas and even a zip line for the kids!

Westcrest Park

I absolutely love this park! Located in West Seattle, it is approximately 4 acres and has a lot of open spaces for your dogs to run around and play. There is also a short loop trail that you can walk with your pals off leash. It has lots of drinking fountains – I have never seen so many drinking fountains at a dog park and it is always filled with clean water!

There is a small/shy dog area but I didn’t see too many dogs in here and it’s really small. I didn’t like it too much but the rest of the park is amazing!

There are some photos on a grass field. This is not a part of the off leash area. We saw a lot of dogs here playing fetch right next to the off leash area so we stopped by to check it out real quick. =)

Parking lot is about 150 yards from the off leash area. Dogs have to be on leash when walking between the parking lot and the off leash area.

Corgi Meet Up @ Edmonds Marina Beach

Edmonds only off leash area is located at the southend of Marina Beach at 498 Admiral Way. Apparently I was very wrong when I said Doublebluff Beach was the only off leash dog beach in Washington. I was so happy to hear about Edmonds Marina Beach when I saw our corgi meet up was scheduled to be here! It was pouring down rain but more than 20 corgis showed up There was even a 12 week old corgi who braved the rainstorm! Unfortunately she didn’t stay the whole time, so I didn’t even get to play with her, but I got to snap a few pics when other ppl were playing with her – there was a line .. and I didn’t get a chance to hold her .. may as well .. last time I held a corgi puppy …. I took her home lol =(

Kinnear Park Off Leash Area

This is a very small dog park. It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood. On weekends and after business hours, you can park in a dedicated parking lot behind Queen Anne Upholstery at the end of W. Mercer Street. You’d want to enter the parking lot from Mercer going down hill toward Elliot. So if you’re coming from Interbay, you’ll have to go past the park, turn around and come back down Mercer. I pretty much only see 1 other dog owner every time I’ve been here. I come here after work when I don’t have time to hit up the bigger parks.

I’d advise against coming here after the sun goes down.

Shih tzu

Although the park is small, it’s big enough for us to play fetch!

Dogs Have No Concept Of Time .. Right?

Corgi missing you

I’m mad at you

I don’t like to take long vacations. My friends think it’s because I’m a workaholic. Yah work is a part of it but mostly because I don’t like to leave my dogs behind. I miss them so much even when I’m gone gone for a couple days. I feel guilty wondering if they feel the same. I’ve always suspected dogs have no concept of time because they seem to greet me with the same intensity when I come back from getting the mail as they do when I get home after a long day of work.

I looked up a study, published in Applied Animal Behavior Science, that attempted to answer that question. (“The Effect of time left alone at home on dog welfare,” Vol 129, 2011), by researchers Therese Rehn and Lindsay Keeling. They found in their study the dogs showed much more excitement when the owners returned after 2 hours as opposed to 30 minutes. So it seemed they could tell how long their humans were gone but there was no difference in the dog’s greeting ‘intensity’ between 2 and 4 hours. So any time beyond 2 hours, it was unclear if dogs could tell the difference.

I think this research is pretty interesting but I swear when I get back from vacation, Kenshin (my oldest) actually seems a little mad at me. He always looks at me and walks off as if he’s giving me the cold shoulder. He also gets really mopey as soon as he sees my suitcase being taken out of the closet when I start to pack. Well .. I’m leaving to my friend’s wedding in Hawaii. My babies will be with their grandparents. What do you think? Can our dogs tell when we’ve been gone for days? Weeks? Or do you think everything is just one big blur?

Magnolia Manor Off Leash Park

Magnolia Manor Off Leash Park

This is a nice park in the Magnolia neighborhood. It’s a bit small for my doggies. I had a lady complain about how loud my dogs were barking. Although the other dog owners came up to me and laughed about how ridiculous it was that someone would complain about barking at a dog park, I still don’t feel comfortable going back because it is next to a lot of houses. If you know corgis, you know they’re very very loud! =) For more information check out their website! http://magnoliamanorpark.org

Marymoor Off-leash Dog Park

Marymoor Dogpark
“Doggy Disneyland”, as it is locally dubbed, Marymoor Park is best known for its 40 acres of off leash dog park. As you Corgi lovers know, the little beloved herders are LOUD! The smaller dog parks aren’t a good fit for my dogs so I try to take them to larger dog parks where they can run and bark and play with lots of other dogs. They can swim or my Shih Tzu will usually find an old tennis ball and make me play fetch with him the entire time we’re there.
